More About Me

I write stories and articles, and I’m still working on my first novel. (Technically, it’s my second. But this is going to be the one that sticks.)

I completed a Masters in Creative Writing (Prose) at the University of East Anglia back in 2015. First time round I studied English and American Literature, also at UEA. In 2017 I was shortlisted for the Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize for Best Unpublished Manuscript.

I’m currently working as a Marketing Manager for a theatre, but I’ve worked as a copywriter, community manager, and editor. Previously, I worked as a Communications Coordinator for a brilliant reading programme called Brave New Reads, and as a Senior Bookseller at a certain chain bookshop, where I managed the fiction department.

I also freelance: copywriting, digital strategy, editing, social media community management. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss working together, or if you’d like to discuss my writing.

Unsurprisingly, I spend a lot of time reading.

At the moment, I live in Norwich, that fine City of Literature, but was born in Durban, South Africa.

If you’d like to know more about the stuff that I go on about, I’m on Twitter @DilysTolfree. You’ll probably see me making deeply insightful comments about the state of modern literature.*
